Being successful and being happy doesn’t always go hand in hand. In fact, there are a lot of people that struggle with this issue and they don’t seem to find a way out of it. But can you be really successful and happy at the same time? The answer is YES. You can definitively have massive success while being extremely happy as well. Today we are going to discuss 3 key elements in achieving that.
1. Focusing on your passions
Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure, and fulfillment only comes from pursuing our passions. You cannot achieve great levels of success and be happy at the same time if you don’t work at your passions. You must follow your heart and go for that dream that was always in your heart. Make sure that you take steps every day to make it real.
That doesn’t mean that you should quit your job and face financial struggles just to pursue your dreams if your current job doesn’t match your passions. If you dedicate 1 hour or two every day for your goal, that compounded effort will bring results and will also make you happy. The idea is to find a way to do it every day and don’t give up on it. Working towards what you are passionate about is a beautiful life.
2. Take time to rest
Another trap that we all seem to face these days is to confuse activity with productivity. We believe that if we spend countless hours working, that means we are more productive and we are getting more things done. When in reality is exactly the opposite. When we don’t take time to rest, we are exhausted and drained, and we start to make huge mistakes that we cannot see. Without resting we are becoming so unproductive, that would be better just to do nothing at all.
Not to mention that you will start to feel miserable and grumpy all the time, all because you don’t take enough time to rest. Work is beautiful and appreciated when you take the time necessary to recover after it. Nothing compares with a relaxing Sunday with your family after a very productive work week or a vacation at some beautiful beaches after all those productive months. Resting shouldn’t be a purpose either, but it’s necessary. Therefore you should always rest until you get your strengths back so you can tackle your projects even stronger.
3. Spend time with your loved ones
Nobody said at the end of their lives “man… I wish that I could have worked more”. The biggest regret is not spending enough time with those that matter for us. These moments with our families are unique and so precious, that we can’t recapture them once they are lost. And what is the purpose of all this work if we can’t have free time to spend time with those that we love?
We cannot be happy by sacrificing our relationship and our family for the sake of our work. We simply can’t. I believe there should be a healthy balance between working and taking time off to spend with our families and loved ones. This way we can achieve success and happiness at the same time.
I know that being productive these days is a necessity. It’s a survival skill that we all must master in order for us to live a beautiful life. But let’s not forget about the things that really matter. Our families, our health, our mindfulness, these matter much more than how much money we make. And being happy makes us much more productive anyway, therefore missing out on these important things is actually counter-productive.
